Spring and Summer Fashion Forecast

During a challenging academic year, a very cold one, in my case, what’s better than to focus on the good times to come? Spring is approaching, summer is also on the horizon, with new fashion trends in tow. Here’s a comprehensive overview of the expected fashion predictions in the spring and summer of 2024, based on designer runway trends.

  1. Short Shorts

A step down from the no-pants trend popular last autumn, this is a more socially acceptable way to survive hot summer days in a stylish way.

  1. The Colour White

While pastel colours usually are all the hype around the spring season, given the awakening of flowers after cold winter months (at least where I live), this year things are  getting white. White dresses, in all fabrics and shapes, can be seen on international runways, ranging from Valentino to Luisa Beccaria.

  1. Roses

Either in print or actual form, both big and small roses can be discovered, from a fully  covered dress to a t-shirt with a single rose.

  1. Polo Shirts

Well, polo shirts with a twist, as the new models do not have much in common with the traditional ones worn in country clubs. Colorful prints, short, long, ruffled – something for every taste can be found.

  1. High Waist Trousers

For me, this one is a new brainer and all-timer. High waist trousers look good, feel good and are available in every shape imaginable. Perfect for the transition phase when it’s just warm enough to go without a coat but still too cold for shorts and skirts.

  1. Metallics

Another very versatile trend, seen implemented in all pieces of clothing possible. Probably not something for every day, but when going out on the weekend or when you simply need some happiness during exam season, a bit of glitter and glimmer can’t hurt.

  1. 90’s Understatement

This rather minimalistic trend, often styled with blouses and pencil skirts that would be fit for a lawyer’s office, is a rather interesting contrast to the other forecasts, but one that’s certainly adaptable for daily life and probably a lot less expensive than the others’,  given the lack of glitter.

  1. Quiet Luxury

In tune with the rising importance of sustainable fashion, quiet luxury pieces that often are long lasting and timeless can be seen more often. Luckily, this style can be achieved without spending heaps of money, when you take the time to look for affordable brands or search for vintage pieces.

  1. Coquette

Continuing on the feminine fashion wave of 2023, 2024 is also adorned by bows and ribbons. From a small bow as part of a half-up hairstyle to a giant bow comprising an entire dress, there’s options for minimalists, maximalists and everyone in between.
